The Adaptation of Ancient Goddesses in Modern Society
Throughout history, ancient and contemporary human societies have created images of gods and goddesses in female and male forms, transferring to the world of divine hierarchies their own beliefs, fears, and joy. By devoting faith in the power of ancient gods, often using symbolic images, individuals modernize their values, seeking solace in life’s difficulties and trusting in native knowledge. Having established relations among mythological representations of goddesses and customs through which these are demonstrated within the everyday life of a community, we believe that research in this field of conversational anthropology opens intervals for understanding science as a collective story of different people.
The phenomena are stretched to the limit of analyzing universal symbols where we value the features of goddesses, which combined embrace God's infinite wisdom and love, encountered in the fundamental knowledge of peoples, marked by national character and alliance with celestial and spiritual structures. As Cronus/Chronos, the divine incarnation of time, reflects human joy and suffering, so do goddesses. However, this information does not come to us in a simple way, easily discerned, but needs to be discovered and decrypted in the relevant texts of different ethnological sources or other fields of knowledge. Whatever change occurs around, goddesses break the limits of human thought, as if their power is ever-renewing and inexhaustible.
Why we need real goddesses
The modern society is a combination of a significant number of communities following different belief systems. The deities of the ancient religions play an important role in the everyday life of a vast number of people. These goddesses have great significance in today's era because they are characterized by the principal features of women – compassion, tenderness, empathy, and, unlike the male gods, they are closer to the people and prone to sympathize with them in times of distress. The role that the ancient goddesses have endured throughout the centuries determined the presently observed multifactorial necessity for their return.
The scientific literature contains numerous studies of the gods and goddesses existing in ancient societies. There are far fewer scholarly works on how these old beliefs adapt to modern society; the relatively scarce literature on this subject is also rather disorganized and largely lacks systematization. The aim of this review is to summarize the information distributed throughout the existing scientific literature and make it available to all non-experts who seek information on any specific topic connected with the role and adaptation of each goddess in modern society, as it pertains to various religions. In this way, the study should satisfy the need for knowledge that is detectable in modern society and maybe even accelerate the return of the ancient goddesses to the current belief systems.
